The Definition of Comfort in a Loaf
Imagine pulling away a piece of warm bread and watching a glorious string of melted cheese stretch out. That's the experience this Cheesy Garlic Pull-Apart Bread delivers. It's interactive, incredibly delicious, and fills your kitchen with the most intoxicating aroma of garlic and herbs. It's less a recipe and more of a ticket to pure, unadulterated happiness.
Materials
- 1 large round loaf of sourdough or crusty bread
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh chives
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
Preparation
- First things first, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). This ensures your bread gets perfectly toasted and the cheese melts into gooey perfection.
- Let's prepare our flavor powerhouse: the garlic butter. In a small bowl, mix together the melted butter, minced garlic, chopped parsley, chives, salt, and pepper. Give it a good stir and just take a moment to appreciate that amazing smell!
- Now for the fun part! Place your loaf of bread on a cutting board. Using a serrated bread knife, carefully cut the bread in a grid pattern. Slice down almost to the bottom crust, but not all the way through! You want the loaf to stay connected at the base. Make your cuts about 1-inch apart.
- Gently pry open the cuts you made. Using a spoon or your fingers, drizzle the garlic butter mixture deep into all the crevices. Don't be shy; you want every nook and cranny to be filled with that buttery goodness.
- Next, stuff the cheese! Combine the mozzarella and cheddar in a bowl, then lovingly stuff the cheese mixture into all the same cuts. It might seem like a lot of cheese, but trust us, it's the right amount.
Cooking
- Wrap the entire cheese-stuffed loaf in aluminum foil. This is a crucial step that steams the bread and melts the cheese without burning the crust.
- Place the foil-wrapped loaf on a baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes. The anticipation will be building as your kitchen starts to smell like an Italian bakery.
- After 15 minutes, carefully unwrap the top of the foil, exposing the top of the bread. This allows the top to get beautifully golden and crispy.
- Return the partially unwrapped loaf to the oven and bake for another 5-10 minutes, or until the cheese is completely melted, bubbly, and the top is golden brown. Keep an eye on it so it doesn't burn!
