Welcome to the Sweet Slice Pizzeria!
Forget pepperoni and cheese, tonight's pizza is all about chocolate and candy! This Crazy Candy Chocolate Pizza starts with a giant, soft cookie 'crust'. Then, you get to be the 'pizzaiolo', spreading on a rich chocolate 'sauce' and designing your masterpiece with a colorful palette of candy toppings. It's the ultimate shareable dessert for a family movie night.
Materials
- 1 roll (16.5 oz) refrigerated sugar cookie dough
- 1 cup chocolate hazelnut spread (like Nutella) or melted chocolate chips
- Assorted 'toppings': mini marshmallows, M&Ms, gummy bears, chocolate shavings, sprinkles, chopped candy bars
Preparation
- First, a grown-up needs to preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). While that's heating up, let's make our crust. Lightly grease a 12-inch pizza pan.
- Now for the fun part! Let the kids get their hands in there and press the sugar cookie dough evenly onto the bottom of the prepared pizza pan, creating a giant, round cookie crust.
- Pop quiz for the kids: What's the best part of pizza? The toppings! Get all your candy toppings ready in small bowls, like a real pizza parlor.
Cooking
- An adult will place the pizza pan in the oven. Bake the giant cookie crust for 16-20 minutes, or until the edges are a lovely golden brown. The center might look a little soft, but that's perfect!
- Carefully remove the 'crust' from the oven and let it cool on the pan for about 10 minutes. This is crucial! If you try to add the chocolate sauce while it's too hot, it will be a melty mess. If you wait too long, it won't spread nicely. It needs to be just warm.
- Once the crust is warm (not hot!), it's time for the 'sauce'. Dollop the chocolate hazelnut spread onto the center of the cookie and let the kids use the back of a spoon or a small spatula to spread it all the way to the edges, just like a real pizza.
