A Spellbindingly Sweet Creation
Every young wizard, witch, or fairy needs a trusty wand, and what could be better than one you can eat? These Magical Chocolate Pretzel Wands are incredibly simple to make and offer endless possibilities for decoration. Let your little one's imagination run wild as they dip, drizzle, and sprinkle their way to a truly magical creation.
Materials
- 1 bag (12 oz) of pretzel rods
- 1 package (12 oz) of milk, dark, or white chocolate melting wafers
- Various 'potions' and 'spells' (sprinkles, edible glitter, nonpareils, chopped nuts)
Preparation
- Let's set up our wand-making station! First, lay a large sheet of wax paper or parchment paper on your countertop. This will be our magical drying area.
- Next, prepare your potions. Pour your different kinds of sprinkles and toppings into separate small, shallow bowls. This makes it easy to roll and decorate the wands.
Cooking
- Time to melt our chocolate! This part requires a grown-up's help. Place the chocolate melting wafers in a microwave-safe bowl or a tall glass (a tall glass makes dipping the long pretzels much easier!).
- Microwave the chocolate in 30-second bursts, stirring in between each one. The goal is to get it completely smooth and fluid, like a magical potion. Be careful not to overheat it, or the chocolate will seize and become clumpy.
- Now for the enchantment! Take a pretzel rod and dip it into the melted chocolate, turning it to coat about two-thirds of its length. Let any excess chocolate drip off back into the glass.
- While the chocolate is still wet, hold the wand over the bowls of sprinkles and let the kids shower it with their chosen toppings, or gently roll the wand in the sprinkles. This is where the magic really happens!
- Carefully place the decorated wand on the parchment paper to set. Repeat with the remaining pretzels. Let them sit at room temperature for about an hour, or pop them in the fridge for 10 minutes to speed up the hardening process.
