Elevate your popcorn game to legendary status. This recipe combines the satisfying crunch of popcorn with the smoky, salty goodness of bacon and the rich sweetness of maple syrup. It's a flavor combination made in heaven that's perfect for movie nights, parties, or just satisfying a serious craving.
Materials
- 1/2 cup popcorn kernels (yields about 12 cups popped)
- 8 slices of bacon, cooked crispy and crumbled
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
Preparation
- Preheat oven to 250°F (120°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Pop the popcorn kernels using your preferred method (air popper, stovetop, etc.). Place the popped popcorn in a very large bowl, removing any unpopped kernels.
- Sprinkle the crumbled bacon over the popcorn and toss lightly.
Cooking
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Stir in the brown sugar, maple syrup, and salt.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring constantly. Once boiling, let it cook for 4 minutes without stirring.
- Remove from heat and immediately stir in the baking soda. The mixture will foam up.
- Quickly pour the caramel mixture over the popcorn and bacon, stirring gently but quickly to coat everything evenly.
- Spread the coated popcorn onto the prepared baking sheet in a single layer.
- Bake for 15 minutes. Let it cool completely on the baking sheet before breaking it into clusters.
