Spring Fish Derby is tentatively set for Sunday, March 23rd
BORUPS CORNERS, NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO – The Local Services Board (LSB) of Melgund held its monthly meeting on February 24th, 2025, bringing forth a variety of community updates and announcements. Chairperson Janet Connor called the meeting to order at 7:10 pm.
The LSB shared exciting news regarding recreational programming. The Nuclear Municipal Waste Organization (NWMO) has approved a $5,000 sponsorship to support local arts, music and recreation events throughout the year. The Board expressed their gratitude for the NWMO’s continued partnership.
In other correspondence, the Board acknowledged receiving updates from Daila Delescaille on the winter sampling program and a reminder from Ontario Property Tax Association regarding data submission, which the LSB confirmed has already been completed. The board also noted receiving overviews from the NWMO on Neighboring Property Protection Program and updates to the Northern Services Board Act, the latter of which has been forwarded to the board for review.
A successful Games Night was held on February 9th, with a fantastic turnout. The board expressed their appreciation for the community’s support. Volunteers are still needed for the July 2025 Garbage Roster, and interested residents are encouraged to contact the LSB.

Family Day celebrations on February 23rd were a resounding success, featuring fireworks, a bonfire, and plenty of food, including hot dogs, burgers, and fries. Attendees enjoyed a fun-filled day.
Looking ahead, the community can anticipate more exciting events. The next Games Night, combined with a Pizza Night, is scheduled for Sunday, March 9th, from 4 to 7 pm. The LSB is especially excited to try out their newly acquired pizza oven.
The Spring Fish Derby is tentatively set for Sunday, March 23rd, from 2 to 6 pm, weather permitting. Participants are asked to bring a dish to share for the meal prepared on the ice. The entry fee is $10 per person, and inquiries can be directed to Pat Daignault.
The January 2025 Treasurer’s Report was presented and accepted as submitted.
The next regular LSB meeting will be held on Monday, March 17th, 2025, at 7 pm at the Dyment Recreation Hall. All community members are welcome to attend.
