It’s the May Long Weekend
Man, there is honestly nothing quite like that last big run out on the ice. When the May long weekend rolls around, everyone else down south is dusting off their patio furniture, but up here? We’re packing the qamutik and seizing the absolute best of what’s left of winter. There’s this awesome, bittersweet rush to it—zipping across the frozen landscape with the wind in your face, knowing that in just a few weeks, this entire highway of ice is going to completely vanish into open water.
Sitting in the back of the sled, surrounded by tarps, ropes, and the anticipation of a solid catch, you really get to breathe for a second. Out here, everything slows down. There’s a beautiful kind of quiet that comes with dropping a line into a freshly drilled hole, just waiting for that first sharp tug while the tundra stretches out forever around you. It’s the ultimate way to reset, connect with the land, and give winter one hell of a proper send-off before the big melt sets in.
To everyone heading out on the land, hitting the highway, or just taking it easy at home—have an absolutely beautiful, safe, and happy long weekend! May your lines stay tight, your tea stay hot, and your company be the absolute best. Enjoy every minute of it!
