Hey everyone!
I’m super excited to share my experience learning how to code and create my very own adventure game called “Going to Churchill – An Inuit Adventure!” This project was part of our Art Borups Corners program, and honestly, it was a blast!
Making the game was a lot of fun. At first, I was worried about coding because I thought it would be super complicated. But with the help of my instructors and the awesome resources we used, I found it easier than I expected. I learned how to use JavaScript to create different parts of the game, and to make a story. It was neat to see how I could make decisions in the game that would change how the adventure progressed.
In the game, you get to experience what it was like for Inuit living in the Arctic in the late 1800s. You have to travel to Churchill to trade your fox furs while dealing with challenges like crossing rivers, meeting fellow travelers, and hunting for food. I really enjoyed making the story and thinking about what it would be like to survive in such a tough environment. We also learned about the kind of games older people used to play before there were graphics!
I think what made this project really special was how we all worked together. We shared ideas, helped each other figure out coding problems, and celebrated our successes. It felt great to collaborate as a team! We are also learning to use artificial intelligence, which is super cool so thank you to the OpenAI researcher access program.
Overall, this was an amazing experience, and I’m proud of what I created. I can’t wait to share my game with everyone and see what kind of journeys you all take in it. If you ever get the chance to learn coding, I definitely recommend it—it’s a valuable skill and gives you the power to create your own worlds!
