Stories Today: Boys Love (BL) Meets Cyberpunk

Explore unfinished Boys Love (BL) and Cyberpunk short stories. Your imagination completes these unique, compelling narratives.
The Arts Incubator - Winnipeg 7 Jan 2026

Narrative Beginnings: The Power of Suggestion

This collection presents a series of unfinished tales, each a fragment of a larger story. These are moments suspended in time, brief encounters, or initial setups that hint at broader narratives. This unique structure encourages readers to engage their imagination, piecing together context and foreseeing possible outcomes.

The project serves as an experimental program exploring the dynamic interplay between human creativity, interdisciplinary arts, and applied artificial intelligence research. It highlights digital tools as collaborative partners in writing, cultivating new forms of storytelling and strengthening digital literacy.

This post delves into the evocative Boys Love (BL) and the futuristic world of Cyberpunk, alongside Contemporary Fiction, Psychological Thriller, and Sci-Fi. These intriguing stories are penned by Jamie F. Bell.

Your creative input is central to these pieces. Explore these stories and allow your mind to expand upon their premises, becoming a co-author of their potential conclusions.

Today’s Unfinished Tales and Short Stories

Two young men, covered in streaks of paint, are laughing together on the floor of a theatre's backstage area.

A Catalogue of Incorrect Greens

Author: Jamie F. Bell | Category: Journalistic | Genre: Boys Love (BL)

The air backstage smelled of sawdust, old velvet, and the acrid tang of fresh paint. Julian surveyed the prop table under the unforgiving glare of a single work light. His shoulders were so tight they felt like they were trying to merge with his ears. The play opened in three days, the set was a catastrophe, and Noah, the universe’s punishment for Julian’s hubris, had decided to ‘help’.

Brushstrokes of Discord

Author: Jamie F. Bell | Category: Boys Love (BL) | Genre: Contemporary Fiction

The air in the city gallery’s workshop hums with the low thrum of the building’s ventilation and the fainter, more immediate scent of turpentine and damp clay. Fluorescent lights buzz overhead, casting a slightly clinical glow on a dozen easels and a smattering of half-finished projects. Jace, leaning into a canvas with a reckless sweep of his brush, feels the usual tightness in his chest beginning to ease, even as a new, unfamiliar tension starts to prickle at the edges of his focus.

The Cascading Signal

Author: Jamie F. Bell | Category: Science Fiction | Genre: Psychological Thriller

The air in the town hall annexe was thick with the smell of damp wool coats and stale coffee. Paula checked the microphone for the third time, tapping its mesh head and listening to the flat, unhelpful thump from the speakers. Outside, the November rain wasn’t stopping, and neither was the relentless pinging of her phone, each notification a fresh wave of public panic she was supposed to somehow contain with a single press conference and a few hundred hastily printed fact sheets.

De-escalation Clause

Author: Jamie F. Bell | Category: Cinematic | Genre: Sci-Fi

The roar of the crowd was a phantom, a number in the corner of her vision: 2.3 million concurrent viewers. The air in the pod was cool and tasted faintly of the electrolyte drink she’d been nursing for the past hour. Outside, the real world was holding its breath. In here, inside the glowing embrace of the Sim-Rig, Riva was preparing to fight World War Three for their entertainment and edification.

The Chill Current of Departure

Author: Jamie F. Bell | Category: Historical Fiction | Genre: Cyberpunk

The city sprawled beneath a perpetually bruised sky, its endless towers spearing into the grey. A bitter wind, laden with ice particles and the metallic tang of exhaust, scoured the skeletal structures of Sector Seven. Neon arteries pulsed, indifferent to the encroaching winter, casting an anemic glow across the slick, frost-rimmed rooftops. Every exhalation was a ghost in the frigid air, a transient plume against the relentless, cold architecture of a future unasked for.

Storytelling and the Arts, Skills Development and Digital Transformation

AI-Assisted Storytelling and Scriptwriting:Our team is actively exploring AI’s role in creative development, using genres such as Boys Love (BL), Contemporary Fiction, Sci-Fi, Psychological Thriller, and Cyberpunk as key examples. We are studying AI’s ability to handle genre-specific challenges, including intricate world-building for Sci-Fi and Cyberpunk narratives, developing complex character dynamics in Contemporary Fiction and Boys Love (BL), and crafting intense suspense in Psychological Thrillers, thereby significantly aiding overall storytelling and scriptwriting processes.Talent Development and Training:Our research into creating these diverse narratives highlights the evolving skills required by creative professionals in a rapidly changing landscape. This process directly informs our understanding of future digital publishing and film production workflows, emphasizing the critical importance of digital literacy and proficiency in managing AI tools for innovative and efficient content creation.

We’re excited to learn about these new technologies and how they can be applied to expand the boundaries of human storytelling. We encourage you to keep reading, keep imagining, and keep exploring the incredible potential that opens up when creativity meets technology.

About the Project

By design, these stories have no beginning and no end. Many stories are fictional, but many others are not. They are snapshots from worlds that never fully exist, inviting you to imagine what comes before and what happens next. We had fun exploring this project, and hope you will too.

The Unfinished Tales and Short Stories collection is an interdisciplinary arts and narrative storytelling experiment. It is part of a creative arts and research program by The Arts Incubator Winnipeg and the Art Borups Corners collectives. This project focuses on two key areas: AI-Assisted Storytelling and Scriptwriting, exploring AI for generating ideas, plot structures, and alternative story arcs; and Talent Development and Training, studying the skills and training needs for creative professionals managing AI and immersive technologies to inform future training curricula. Funding and support were generously provided by the Ontario Arts Council Multi and Inter-Arts Projects program and the Government of Ontario. We thank them for supporting the arts, digital transformation, and applied Artificial Intelligence (AI) research for northern innovation in Ontario.

The Arts Incubator - Winnipeg is a participatory arts collective and living lab, based in Winnipeg, Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario. It's a space where innovation and creativity thrive. It's latest iteration was launched in 2021 with funding and support from the Canada Council for the Arts Digital Greenhouse. Today, working with students and faculty from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, we fuse traditional and participatory media arts with artificial intelligence, music, storytelling and community-driven, land-based artist residencies to cultivate new voices and bold ideas. Whether through collaborative projects or immersive experiences, our small but vibrant community supports creators to explore, experiment, and connect. Join us at the intersection of artistry, technology, culture and community—where every moment is a new opportunity to create.
