Melgund Township Builds New Pavilion: A New Cornerstone for Food, the Arts and Events

The new Melgund Township Pavilion is rapidly taking shape in Dyment, becoming a significant new asset for the community’s recreation complex. This exciting construction project, nearing completion in time for Canada Day Celebrations, promises to be a vibrant gathering space that will greatly enhance community life. Once finished, the pavilion will serve as a central hub for various community events, supporting a stronger sense of togetherness and providing a dedicated area for residents to connect and engage.

This small, but multi-purpose pavilion is envisioned as a prime location for both food-focused activities and arts initiatives. Imagine local farmers’ markets, communal potlucks, or even outdoor cooking demonstrations taking place under its protective roof. Beyond culinary delights, the pavilion will be an ideal venue for showcasing local artistic talent, hosting craft fairs, live musical performances, and open-air art exhibitions, enriching the cultural landscape of Melgund Township. Its design facilitates a welcoming atmosphere, perfect for fostering creative expression and enjoying shared meals.

Thank you, Nuclear Waste Management Organization, for supporting the Melgund Township Pavilion! We can't wait to share this amazing space for food, arts, and community events. Photo: Terri Bell

The successful construction of the Melgund Township Pavilion is the result of community collaboration and external support. A special thank you is extended to the Local Services Board of Melgund and the Nuclear Waste Management Organization for their invaluable contribution to this project, which will undoubtedly become a cornerstone for community gatherings, fostering a thriving environment for food, arts, and social interaction for years to come. This new addition is poised to be a cherished space, bringing people together and strengthening the bonds within the Melgund community.

Art Borups Corners is a dynamic participatory arts collective and living lab, based in Winnipeg, Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario. It's a space where innovation and creativity thrive. The program was founded in 2014, with its arts incubator established in 2021 and 2022 with funding and support from the Canada Council for the Arts Digital Greenhouse. Today, working with students and faculty from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, we fuse traditional and participatory media arts with artificial intelligence, music, storytelling and community-driven, land-based artist residencies to cultivate new voices and bold ideas. Whether through collaborative projects or immersive experiences, our small but vibrant community supports creators to explore, experiment, and connect. Join us at the intersection of artistry, technology, culture and community—where every moment is a new opportunity to create.

The intricate details of dried, splintered wood tell a story of clear-cutting and the environmental impact left behind. This photograph, captured in black and white, forces the viewer to confront the raw reality of the landscape and the fire hazard it represents. The image is a powerful tool for visual storytelling and a conversation about land stewardship. Photo: Terri Bell

The changing seasons are starting to show themselves in the landscape, adding another layer of beauty to our blueberry picking. This photograph not only shows the full, ripe fruit but also hints at the yellows and reds on the leaves preparing for fall. It's a great example of the natural colors our artists and photographers are working to capture.
