Apple Trees Loving Summer!

The apple trees are looking fantastic, and we're excited for what's to come.

A Season of Growth: Our Young Apple Orchard is Flourishing

It’s been an incredible summer so far at the Land Lab, and our apple trees are really showing off! This year, we’ve continued to deepen our connection with nature and the land through our expanding sustainable agriculture efforts. As part of our ongoing storytelling project, we’ve been carefully documenting the life cycles of many plants, fruits, and berries we nurture here – and the apple trees are a definite highlight. Watching them grow and thrive has been a powerful narrative in itself.

Green and Growing!

Just look at the lush, vibrant green leaves on our apple trees! Each new leaf seems to unfurl with an eager burst of life, adding to the overall fullness and health of the plants. You can almost see them reaching for the sky. The branches are strong and steadily lengthening, promising a robust framework for future harvests. We’re consistently impressed by their progress each day.

Green and Purple Apple Trees

You know, not all our apple trees are the same shade of green, which is pretty cool. Some of our young ones have this gorgeous reddish-purple color to their leaves. It adds such a unique pop and makes them stand out. It’s a nice little surprise and a reminder that even within the same plant family, there’s so much natural beauty and variation.

Dreaming of Future Apples

We know it’ll be a little while before we’re harvesting our own apples, but seeing them grow this strong and healthy makes us incredibly optimistic. Every tree we add is a step closer to that first bite of a homegrown apple. We’re committed to keeping them happy and healthy, and will continue to share the journey – and eventually, the bounty – with you all. But that’s still a few years away. Keep an eye out for more updates from our little orchard!

Art Borups Corners is a dynamic participatory arts collective and living lab, based in Winnipeg, Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario. It's a space where innovation and creativity thrive. The program was founded in 2014, with its arts incubator established in 2021 and 2022 with funding and support from the Canada Council for the Arts Digital Greenhouse. Today, working with students and faculty from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, we fuse traditional and participatory media arts with artificial intelligence, music, storytelling and community-driven, land-based artist residencies to cultivate new voices and bold ideas. Whether through collaborative projects or immersive experiences, our small but vibrant community supports creators to explore, experiment, and connect. Join us at the intersection of artistry, technology, culture and community—where every moment is a new opportunity to create.
