Back in Baker Lake for a week of traditional storytelling, song and time spent exploring the community.

There’s a definite chill in the air in Baker Lake! I was back in Baker Lake, Nunavut this week for traditional storytelling and song workshops, and it’s been so nice to be here again. The weather is turning, the air is crisp and cold, and it won’t be long before the snow arrives.

I always enjoy getting out and spending time in the community when I’m here. This week we had a terrific time with our workshops, sharing stories and songs, and meeting up with everyone. A big thank you to the people of Qamani’tuaq for welcoming us and making it such a good visit.

I also managed to get out for some walks and take in more of the coastline. It’s beautiful out there right now. The water is still open, the rocks are exposed and you can really take in the size of the landscape. It’s hard to imagine that before long everything will look completely different under the snow and ice.

Soon the lake will freeze, and we’ll be travelling across the ice and tundra on our snowmachines again. There’s always a lot to look forward to as the seasons change up here. Baker Lake is also very close to the geographical centre of Canada, which is a pretty special place to find yourself.

Thanks again, Baker Lake. It was wonderful being back. I hope to see you all again soon!

Out enjoying the Baker Lake coastline before winter sets in. The water won't be open for much longer!
