The tent's pitched, welcoming us back to the land as spring rolls towards summer. It's the perfect time to gather, share our old stories, and let the kids just be – soaking up the freedom and the quiet beauty of the tundra before the mosquitoes claim their season.

Support Creative Futures Across Manitoba, Northwestern Ontario, and Minnesota

At The Arts Incubator, we’re driven by the power of community collaboration, artistic innovation, and cultural connection. As a volunteer-led nonprofit arts organization rooted in Manitoba, Northwestern Ontario and Minnesota, we depend on passionate volunteers — including artists, mentors, youth leaders, and community advocates — to advance our mission.

Whether you’re an experienced artist, emerging creative, entrepreneur, dedicated mentor, or someone who wants to contribute your time and skills, you can make a difference with us.

Why Volunteer With The Arts Incubator?

Joining our volunteer community means you will:

Mentor youth artists and emerging creatives in digital media, visual arts, storytelling, and entrepreneurship
Support arts-based community development projects that foster cultural expression and climate action
Help organize and deliver artist residencies, public art events, workshops, and creative pop-ups
Collaborate with a diverse team engaged in Indigenous, urban, rural, and northern arts initiatives
Create meaningful impact through participatory arts, community engagement, and grassroots leadership development

Volunteer Roles We’re Recruiting For

We welcome volunteers with a range of skills and interests, including:

  • Creative mentors and arts facilitators — painters, writers, designers, makers, multimedia artists
  • Event and program volunteers — assisting with exhibitions, residencies, community workshops, and festivals
  • Community outreach coordinators — helping to connect with local residents, Indigenous communities, and youth groups
  • Grant writers and sponsorship coordinators — supporting funding proposals and partnership development
  • Guest speakers and workshop leaders — especially for our seasonal fall and winter programs
  • Youth mentors focused on digital arts, entrepreneurial skills, climate advocacy, and leadership
  • Content creators — photographers, videographers, social media storytellers, bloggers
  • Cultural advisors an Elders — guiding youth arts projects with traditional knowledge and mentorship
  • No matter where you live — be it Winnipeg, Minneapolis, or smaller towns in Northwestern Ontario — your involvement matters to us.

Partner With The Arts Incubator

We are actively seeking:

  • Community partners, local businesses, and sponsors who value the transformative power of the arts
  • Artists-in-residence, educators, and cultural organizations interested in collaborative programming

Administrator

The Arts Incubator is a participatory arts collective and living lab, based in Winnipeg, Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario. It's a space where innovation and creativity thrive. It's latest iteration was launched in 2021 with funding and support from the Canada Council for the Arts Digital Greenhouse. Today, working with students and faculty from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, we fuse traditional and participatory media arts with artificial intelligence, music, storytelling and community-driven, land-based artist residencies to cultivate new voices and bold ideas. Whether through collaborative projects or immersive experiences, our small but vibrant community supports creators to explore, experiment, and connect. Join us at the intersection of artistry, technology, culture and community—where every moment is a new opportunity to create.

The intricate details of dried, splintered wood tell a story of clear-cutting and the environmental impact left behind. This photograph, captured in black and white, forces the viewer to confront the raw reality of the landscape and the fire hazard it represents. The image is a powerful tool for visual storytelling and a conversation about land stewardship. Photo: Terri Bell

Aftermath of the Cut

The changing seasons are starting to show themselves in the landscape, adding another layer of beauty to our blueberry picking. This photograph not only shows the full, ripe fruit but also hints at the yellows and reds on the leaves preparing for fall. It's a great example of the natural colors our artists and photographers are working to capture.
