A New Hub for Melgund Township Activities

The moment has arrived! Melgund Township proudly unveils its brand-new community pavilion, completed just in the nick of time for Canada Day festivities. This impressive structure, with its sturdy timber frame and gleaming roof is a welcoming hub, ready to host everything from community events to lively musical performances.

Funded by the Nuclear Waste Management Organization, the new pavilion is a true gift to the community, offering a dedicated space that can adapt to a multitude of events. Imagine families enjoying picnics under its shade during the day, or local bands filling the air with music as the sun sets. It’s a place where memories will be made and community bonds will undoubtedly grow stronger.

As summer officially kicks off, the Melgund Township pavilion is poised to become a focal point for all things fun and festive. Its completion signifies not just a building project finished, but the beginning of countless opportunities for connection, joy, and shared experiences.

Administrator

The Arts Incubator - Winnipeg is a participatory arts collective and living lab, based in Winnipeg, Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario. It's a space where innovation and creativity thrive. It's latest iteration was launched in 2021 with funding and support from the Canada Council for the Arts Digital Greenhouse. Today, working with students and faculty from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, we fuse traditional and participatory media arts with artificial intelligence, music, storytelling and community-driven, land-based artist residencies to cultivate new voices and bold ideas. Whether through collaborative projects or immersive experiences, our small but vibrant community supports creators to explore, experiment, and connect. Join us at the intersection of artistry, technology, culture and community—where every moment is a new opportunity to create.

This event offers an overview of the United Kingdom’s Geological Disposal Facility programme, highlighting how nuclear waste is managed through long-term geological storage and community engagement. Attendees will hear from Annabelle Hall-Tomkin, a leading expert in public engagement, who will share lessons learned from nearly a decade of experience working on one of the UK’s largest environmental protection initiatives. The session will explore how communities are involved in decision-making, transportation planning, and the development of long-term safety strategies.
