Nurturing growth in our community grow boxes. Inspired by successful projects, we're expanding our capacity for sustainable local food production this year!

Growing Food Security with More Community Garden Boxes
Our community’s grow boxes are in phenomenal shape, marking another exciting year for sustainable agriculture and local food production! Building on the strong foundation laid by our pilot program last year, proudly supported by the Manitoba Agriculture Indigenous Food Systems and Agriculture program, we are thrilled to be significantly expanding our raised garden beds.
Last season was crucial for establishing the infrastructure and allowing our initial plantings to take root and establish strong root systems. While the yield was modest as the plants were still maturing, this year promises a bountiful harvest!
We are diversifying our crops, adding delicious raspberries, juicy blackberries, sweet strawberries, and more to our growing repertoire. This expansion is a vital step in enhancing our food security and promoting regenerative agriculturepractices within our community.
This project is more than just gardening; it’s about fostering community engagement, sharing knowledge, and building a resilient local food system.
We’ve learned so much, drawing significant inspiration from successful initiatives like the Arviat Goes Green project. Their dedication to Arctic farming and community gardens profoundly influenced our approach and motivated our efforts and brought back many fond memories.
