A Creative Afternoon with Melgund Artist Leanne Nicholson
There was something a little unusual on the tables at the Dyment Recreation Hall this Wednesday: bones, animal skulls, paint and plenty of creativity.
On August 12, local Borups Corners artist Leanne Nicholson led a three-hour workshop on painting bones and animal skulls as part of our annual Summer Arts Incubator Program. From 1 to 4 p.m., participants had the chance to get up close with different bones, learn more about them and then turn them into their own pieces of art.
Leanne shared her knowledge throughout the afternoon, helping participants understand the different bones and showing them how they could use colour, pattern and design to bring the natural shapes to life.
It was a fun afternoon of learning, experimenting and talking about art. There was plenty of room for everyone to put their own ideas into the work, making each finished piece a little different.
Some of the artwork created during the workshop will now have another life beyond the workshop. Selected pieces will be exhibited at the upcoming Fall Arts Exhibition at the Dyment Recreation Hall, opening September 12.
It was another great example of what our Summer Arts Incubator is about: trying something new, learning from a local artist and making something to share with the community. A special thanks to Leanne for making this wonderful workshop so much fun!
