Art, Pizza, and Play: Reawakening Our Creative and Community Programming

Community spaces are set to expand in 2025, ushering in a wave of new programs designed to enrich local engagement and creativity. With the addition of modern facilities and an expanded outdoor event space, the community is poised to host a diverse range of activities, from land-based workshops to dynamic arts exhibitions.

A Fresh Start: Rebuilding, Reconnecting, and Reigniting Creativity

After two years of navigating the challenges posed by the 2022 flood, 2025 marks a year of resurgence for our community. The Dyment Recreation Hall, the heart of our local programming, has been undergoing significant transformations. The lower level, still a work in progress, will soon be a cornerstone for community events and activities. In the meantime, we’ve been relying on our Winnipeg hub to keep the momentum going, delivering programs and connecting artists, but the time has come for us to re-establish our presence here at home.

Each week, we’re going to showcase a few of the recreation spaces, places and capabilities that make our community special.

Equipped with top-tier stainless steel kitchen gear and food warmers, our main hall is ready to host a range of community events—fueling both creativity and connection for years to come.

This month, a special spark was reignited as the Local Services Board hosted its inaugural pizza and games night—an event that immediately reminded us of the importance of simple joys and shared experiences. The laughter, the food, and the camaraderie filled the space with a sense of possibility and anticipation for what’s to come.

With the newly expanded addition to the hall, we’re poised for a year full of exciting activities. And this is just the beginning. As we look toward summer, plans for our outdoor exhibition and event space are taking shape—an open-air gallery for exhibits that will showcase the talents of our community and welcome visitors to experience art in a truly dynamic way.

The expansion of the outdoor event space signals a vibrant resurgence for the community, breathing new life into land-based activities that were first piloted in 2022 with support from the Canada Council for the Arts Digital Greenhouse. Those pilot project activities laid the groundwork for a deeper connection between art and the land, blending creativity with the natural world in ways that resonated with both tradition and innovation.

Now, as the community’s outdoor space is set to expand, these activities will flourish once again, offering even more opportunities for collective storytelling, artistic expression, and shared experiences that honor the land. This growth invites the community to reimagine the outdoors as a dynamic, living canvas—one that fosters unity, creativity, and a renewed sense of place.

2025 is a year of new beginnings, one that promises more opportunities to connect, create, and celebrate the vibrant spirit that has always defined this place. The flood may have paused us for a time, but now, we’re ready to move forward—stronger, more energized, and more committed than ever to nurturing creativity and community.

The Arts Incubator - Winnipeg is a participatory arts collective and living lab, based in Winnipeg, Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario. It's a space where innovation and creativity thrive. It's latest iteration was launched in 2021 with funding and support from the Canada Council for the Arts Digital Greenhouse. Today, working with students and faculty from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, we fuse traditional and participatory media arts with artificial intelligence, music, storytelling and community-driven, land-based artist residencies to cultivate new voices and bold ideas. Whether through collaborative projects or immersive experiences, our small but vibrant community supports creators to explore, experiment, and connect. Join us at the intersection of artistry, technology, culture and community—where every moment is a new opportunity to create.

Our commitment to an Open Access model was built on a simple belief: stories this important shouldn't be locked behind a paywall. Because we chose to remove those barriers, our books aren't just "available"—they are everywhere. We have successfully moved from a local initiative to a global cultural export, with our titles now sitting on digital shelves in over 426 locations worldwide.

Based on the strong upward momentum observed since early 2025, the site is projected to reach approximately 2.82 million total visits by the end of 2026. This trajectory, illustrated by the dashed forecast line, represents a significant 165% increase over the previous year's estimated traffic, driven by a consistent month-over-month growth trend that accelerated in late 2025.
