Groups that do a lot of good in Winnipeg
We like to meet in a lot of places and spaces across the city as a way to “get out and about.” One of the most wonderful spots we’ve encountered, is The Firehall.
Located at 325 Talbot Avenue, the historic Fire Station No. 8 has stood for more than a century. Carefully restored to preserve its historic character, the building now blends heritage charm with modern purpose. The second and third floors hold the main offices, while the main floor and basement have been transformed into vibrant community spaces. Here, you’ll find everything from a food bank and community kitchen to drop-in programs and support groups. On Sundays, the building also comes alive as the home of the Firehall worship community.
Run by the Riverwood Church community, the Firehall has become a hub of care and connection in Winnipeg’s Elmwood neighbourhood. This week, we stopped by one of their community lunches and were truly impressed—not just by the incredible spaces they’ve created, but also by the warmth and welcome extended to everyone who walks through the doors. The combination of historic architecture and genuine hospitality makes the Firehall a special place to gather.
Beyond the walls, the impact of their work ripples through the community. Food programs, outreach efforts, and support networks provide vital assistance to many who need it most. Whether you’re looking for a meal, a welcoming space, or a way to give back, Fire Station No. 8 is worth a visit.
If you’re nearby, stop in—you might be surprised at how much this place offers and how many ways you can get involved.
