A special and unexpected opportunity to explore careers in media came while we were all attending a closing session for the Inuit Studies Conference. Our project’s participating artists were able to get hands-on with CBC North’s Pauline Pemik and Jaison Empson as they interviewed the youth for CBC News and CBC Igalaaq.
We got to watch the preparations they needed to do for their shoot, the equipment they used, how they composed their shots and interviewed people for television. We also talked about what it is like to work in a place like CBC, the challenges and awesome opportunities that come from being able to work in journalism, as well as the digital skills needed to work in a multiple-media field.
Thank you to Pauline and Jason for making time out of their busy schedules – it was a very hectic schedule this week, especially for them. We are grateful for their showing us a behind-the-scenes look at their work. We also thank them for interviewing the youth and showcasing them on CBC.
