After producing millions of words last year, we realized we needed a better way to share them. Meet our new, human-friendly ePub reader built for us.
A Simple Tool for a Massive Library
Last summer, something incredible happened. Through our storytelling programs, our community found its voice in a massive way. We didn’t just write a few stories; we produced millions of words. It was an explosion of history, culture, and creativity—far more than we ever let on. But we quickly ran into a wall: what good is a mountain of stories if people can’t climb it?
We saw the frustration firsthand. People wanted to dive into these stories, but the “standard” apps were standing in the way. Some e-readers are over-engineered, data-hungry, and frankly, annoying to use. For many of our neighbours in the North, these programs felt like a barrier rather than a tool. We watched Elders and students give up on trying, not because they couldn’t read, but because the software was too “fussy.”
We refused to let millions of words sit on our digital shelf just because a program was too complicated. So, we stopped looking for the right app and built it ourselves.
Our new ePub reader isn’t about fancy features or cloud syncing. It’s about respect. We stripped away the noise to focus on what matters: the words. We built it to be lightweight enough for older devices and sturdy enough to work perfectly when the internet cuts out. No accounts, no “update required” screens—just a direct path to the stories we worked so hard to tell.
This project is a reminder that in the North, we don’t just wait for tools to be handed to us; we build the ones we need. We have millions of words ready for you to explore, and now, we finally have the right doorway to walk through.
