Moments Interrupted
What you will find here are not traditional stories with tidy resolutions, but rather partial scenes that leave the door open for interpretation. These unfinished tales act as snapshots of larger lives, capturing the tension of a moment without resolving it. The intent is to spark curiosity, allowing the silence after the final sentence to be as significant as the text itself.
By combining human intuition with applied artificial intelligence research, this collection investigates the evolving landscape of interdisciplinary arts. The project highlights how digital tools act as collaborative partners in the creative process, facilitating new approaches to scriptwriting and storytelling while building essential digital literacy skills.
This post features a variety of settings, ranging from high-stakes Medical Drama and Action-Adventure to the quieter, grounded moments of Slice of Life and Cozy Mystery. The authors behind these distinct voices are Jamie F. Bell, Leaf Richards, and Eva Suluk.
Consider these pieces as starting points rather than conclusions. We encourage you to engage with the material and envision the scenes that inevitably follow these suspended moments.
Today’s Unfinished Tales and Short Stories
Dive into a unique anthology of short stories featuring Medical Drama, Action-Adventure, and the quiet moments of Slice of Life. By juxtaposing Allegorical themes with Sports Fiction and Comedy, we aim to redefine publishing through creative technology. This project supports digital literacy while investigating the potential of AI-assisted narrative in generating everything from Cozy Mysteries to high-stakes adventures.

Between the Scaffolding and the Soul
Author: Jamie F. Bell | Category: Adventure | Genre: Medical Drama
The hospital’s liminal hours, just before dawn, held a particular melancholy, a suspension between the exhausted night and the demanding day. It was in these moments that the weight of decisions, both made and deferred, settled heaviest, a quiet hum beneath the sterile glow of fluorescent fixtures and the distant, rhythmic beeps of machines.

Light Through Frozen Glass
Author: Leaf Richards | Category: Allegorical | Genre: Slice of Life
Cold, weak sunlight, filtered through a large window caked with frozen condensation, barely illuminated the long, scarred pine table. A thick, grey sky pressed against the glass, hinting at fresh snow. Inside, the air was warm, thick with the scent of lukewarm coffee and the subtle metallic tang of an old radiator. Five young people huddled around the table, their breath misting faintly whenever the door to the draughty hall briefly opened.

Against the Burned Path
Author: Leaf Richards | Category: Sports Fiction | Genre: Action-Adventure
The humid summer air hung heavy, thick with the scent of hot asphalt and something acrid from the nearby industrial estate. Sunlight, brutal and unyielding, baked the concrete labyrinth of the abandoned factory complex. Rust stained the corrugated metal walls, and weeds, defiant and tenacious, pushed through every crack and fissure in the ground, reclaiming territory from forgotten machinery.

The Viscount’s Vengeance, Take Twelve
Author: Eva Suluk | Category: Comedy | Genre: Cozy Mystery
The oppressive heat of the late afternoon summer clung to the old Oakhaven Playhouse like a damp shroud, permeating the velvet seats and the dusty stage. Every breath felt thick with the smell of old wood, sweat, and the faint, metallic tang of forgotten stage lights. On the stage, under a single, unforgiving work light, two figures moved with the weary grace of those accustomed to carrying the weight of absurdity.

The Lanzhou Feed
Author: Jamie F. Bell | Category: Slice of Life | Genre: Slice of Life
On a blustery ridge in Northwestern Ontario, Ben and his team struggle to calibrate their VR equipment before the temperature drops further.
About the Project
By design, these stories have no beginning and no end. Many stories are fictional, but many others are not. They are snapshots from worlds that never fully exist, inviting you to imagine what comes before and what happens next. We had fun exploring this project, and hope you will too.
The Unfinished Tales and Short Stories collection is part of an experimental, creative arts and research program by The Arts Incubator Winnipeg and the Art Borups Corners collectives. Each chapter is an interdisciplinary arts and narrative storytelling experiment focused on two key areas: AI-Assisted Scriptwriting, where researchers explore using AI to generate story ideas, plot structures, and alternative story arcs to enhance creative development; and Talent Development and Training, where the project studies the necessary skills for creative professionals to manage AI and immersive technologies in production, helping to inform future training curricula. The project was made possible with funding and support from the Ontario Arts Council Multi and Inter-Arts Projects program and the Government of Ontario. We thank them for supporting the arts, digital transformation research and innovation in Ontario.
