Summer Artists Retreat Kicks Off with Music, Meals, and Momentum

This weekend’s Summer Artists Retreat with Art Borups Corners is off to a fantastic start! The energy was high on Friday evening as artists and musicians gathered for an informal night of rehearsals, jamming, and collaborative repertoire development. Laughter filled the room as musicians traded stories, shared songs, and began laying the groundwork for what promises to be a powerful performance season.

Saturday morning began with a hearty breakfast—coffee brewing, instruments nearby, and conversations flowing easily between participants. It was a chance not just to fuel up, but to connect and set the tone for a weekend of focused creativity and planning.

The rest of Saturday morning and early afternoon was dedicated to organizing seven full performance sets and finalizing the list of 79 songs to rehearse. From old-time classics like “Silver Wings” to favourites like “Swinging Doors” the mix is as dynamic as the artists themselves. The excitement is already building for the upcoming Melgund Township Canada Day Celebrations on July 1st, where these carefully crafted sets will take centre stage.

With collaboration, community, and creativity leading the way, this year’s retreat is already proving to be more than just a weekend of practice—it’s a celebration of shared passion and preparation for an unforgettable week of music kicking off July 1st.

The Arts Incubator - Winnipeg is a participatory arts collective and living lab, based in Winnipeg, Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario. It's a space where innovation and creativity thrive. It's latest iteration was launched in 2021 with funding and support from the Canada Council for the Arts Digital Greenhouse. Today, working with students and faculty from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, we fuse traditional and participatory media arts with artificial intelligence, music, storytelling and community-driven, land-based artist residencies to cultivate new voices and bold ideas. Whether through collaborative projects or immersive experiences, our small but vibrant community supports creators to explore, experiment, and connect. Join us at the intersection of artistry, technology, culture and community—where every moment is a new opportunity to create.
