From the Arts Incubator Winnipeg Book Club comes The Frost’s Shadow. It‘s a haunting, unforgettable tale of survival, tradition, and the forces that bind us to the land.

When a devastating blizzard cuts off Saila’s remote Arctic village, plunging it into endless darkness, the resourceful teen must draw on forgotten knowledge to bring back the light. Her handmade seal-fat lamps burn as symbols of hope—but their flickering glow stirs something ancient and hungry, a spirit awakened from the melting permafrost and tied to the fate of the Earth itself.
As the storm deepens, Saila must battle not only the merciless cold but also a primal force that threatens to consume her home, her people, and her spirit. The Frost’s Shadow is a chilling yet deeply human story about courage, resilience, and the fragile balance between humanity and nature.
Perfect for both home and classroom reading, The Frost’s Shadow includes a reflective discussion guide that encourages meaningful dialogue about its themes of environmental stewardship, cultural resilience, and global citizenship—connecting the story to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 15: Life on Land.
