The Art of Self-Compassion

Treat yourself with kindness, just as you would a close friend.
Jamie Bell 16 Jan 2026
The Art of Self-Compassion

I used to think that self-care was selfish. That it meant indulging in luxuries or taking time for myself when others needed help. But the more I learned about the importance of self-compassion, the more I realized that it’s not about me; it’s about being a better version of myself.

Imagine having a friend who’s going through a tough time. You’d want to be there for them, right? You’d listen, you’d offer words of encouragement, and you’d remind them that they’re not alone. That’s what self-compassion is – treating yourself with the same kindness and care that you’d offer to someone else.

It’s not about being perfect; it’s about being present. Being kind to your thoughts, your feelings, and your body. It’s about acknowledging that you’re human and that it’s okay to make mistakes. And most importantly, it’s about being gentle with yourself when things don’t go as planned.

So, take a deep breath and offer yourself some kindness today. Write yourself a letter, have a conversation with yourself, or simply remind yourself that you’re doing the best you can. Because, let’s be real, that’s all any of us can do.

The Potluck Principle

The Arts Incubator - Winnipeg 4 Mar 2026
A low angle shot of freshly-plowed roads, where the glistening ice crystals catch the faint glow of streetlights on a dark winter night. The snow is pristine, untouched except for the tire tracks, and with each step, the snow crunches sharply under my boots, the cold air crisp and still. The quiet of the night envelops me, the only sound the soft crackle of ice beneath my feet.
