Update: Looking Ahead to Fall

Students, artists and community projects are getting underway as we head into another busy fall.

A change of seasons and a lot on the horizon. From exhibitions and independent studies to food production and new collaborations, there’s plenty ahead.

Independent studies, food production, exhibitions and new collaborations are keeping the coming months busy.

Summer is pretty much over, and there’s a lot to look forward to this fall.

But for now, it’s great to simply be outside here in Winnipeg, watching the trees get ready to change colour and the seasons shift toward winter.

A lot of the youth and students are back to school. It’s really cool to see a bunch of great independent studies starting up, and we’re really thrilled to be supporting students as they pursue their own ideas and projects. We’re especially excited to see activities supported by organizations like our longtime partner, the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, as well as work involving clay and glazes at Concordia and birch bark and ancient history with Brown University and the University of California, Berkeley.

Our Northwestern Ontario and Manitoba food production program is also moving into an exciting new phase, with the gardens, orchard and food projects continuing to develop. There’s a lot happening behind the scenes as we build up infrastructure and look at new ways to connect food production with arts, education, community development and entrepreneurship.

Creative Entrepreneurship, upgrading our digital marketplace, and exploring cool things like vibe coding and storytelling will be keeping us all busy. The annual Northwestern Ontario fall arts exhibition is also starting this weekend and will run into the end of October.

There will also be board and governance training. That’s a big one for us as we continue to grow. We’ll also be welcoming new artists and youth in the coming weeks. It’s been pretty busy, and we’re behind on a few things.

And that’s just the beginning. There are exhibitions, workshops, research projects and new collaborations on the way, with plenty more taking shape as we head into fall. And to everyone who’s back to school this month, we hope you all have an awesome start to the semester and school year!

A founding member of our arts collective, Eva Suluk is a cultural connector specializing in traditional knowledge, drumming and oral history storytelling. Her work has been supported by the Canada Council for the Arts. An Inuit artist residing in Arviat, Nunavut, she is renowned for her expertise in preparing dried caribou meat. She has been featured in the IsumaTV series "Inuit Makers," specifically in the segment titled "Drying Caribou," which showcases her traditional skills and knowledge in meat preservation.
