Each winter, a community ice shack is placed on Melgund Lake available for use by residents of Melgund Township, offering a warm shelter for ice fishing, socializing, and enjoying the peaceful northern landscape. The shack is located a short distance from the Dyment boat launch, with access via an informal, plowed ice road.
How to Access:
- Follow directions to the Dyment Boat Access (south side of Melgund Lake)
- Once at the landing, take the plowed ice road out onto the lake
- Follow the route until you reach the Dyment Ice Shack
Note: The ice road is not officially maintained. Travel on lake ice is at your own risk. Use extreme caution and verify ice thickness before travel.
Facilities:
- Seasonal heated shelter (removed in spring)
- Informal parking at boat launch site
- Lake access for ice fishing and winter recreation
