Located on the south side of Melgund Lake and the Melgund Lake Conservation Reserve, the Dyment Boat Access offers a convenient and well-maintained launch point for boating, canoeing, and kayaking in one of Northwestern Ontario’s most scenic and peaceful lakes. Whether you’re heading out for a fishing trip or paddling through the tranquil waters around the reserve, this access point provides the perfect starting location.

How to Get There:

  1. From Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 17), turn north onto Highway 603 at Borups Corners
  2. Continue on Hwy 603 and turn left onto Melgund Road 3
  3. Follow the gravel road (you will cross the train tracks)
  4. The launch is located on the south side of Melgund Lake with a clear sign and parking area

Canoe & Kayak Route: Around Camping Island

Route Distance: 4 km round-trip
Estimated Time: 2–5 hours depending on wind and experience
Difficulty Level: Intermediate paddlers
Recommended Season: Spring through fall (April–October)

Explore the quiet shorelines and island inlets as you paddle around Camping Island, a small wooded island visible from the launch area. This route offers opportunities to spot wildlife, enjoy peaceful rest stops, and take in the scenic granite ridges that define the Melgund Lake landscape. A designated paddling route is available, marked informally by frequent local use.
