A Call for Heritage Wood
While our arts program is based in Winnipeg, many know that we have a Northwestern Ontario hub. We’re reaching out to the many folks with cabins, cottages, and hunting or fishing properties across the region who might have the perfect materials hidden in their treelines. If you have a property with old wood to spare—or if you know a neighbor who does—we need your help to spread the word. Your “scrap” is exactly the kind of high-character material they need to create an authentic, rustic atmosphere for their exhibitions.
If you’ve got an old outbuilding leaning into the wind or a stack of greyed siding cluttering up your property, we’d like to give it a starring role. Our Northwestern Ontario hub is on a mission to gather weathered barn boards and salvaged timber to help construct the bones of our new gallery space. Rather than letting these pieces of forest history crumble away, we’re upcycling them into unique pedestals and display elements that will support the next generation of local artists.
We aren’t just looking for wood; we’re looking for the stories etched into it. Every board donated from a local family cottage or an old homestead adds a layer of regional history to our heritage space. By donating to our Ontario hub, you’re helping us bridge the gap between our city programs and the rugged landscape that inspires so much of our work. It’s a chance to see a piece of your property transformed into a permanent fixture of the regional arts scene right here in the North.
Ready to help us haul some history? If you have materials to donate or want to help us spread the call across lake-country, please get in touch. You can reach us via our contact page or drop us a line at info@artsincubator.ca. Let’s work together to turn those old boards into something beautiful!
