All Art Borups Corners team members are encouraged to join us at @1860 for the CBRL meeting on Friday, September 29 at 11:00 am (PST) with Dr. Sylmara Gonçalves Dias, who is currently an Associate Professor at the School of Arts, Sciences and Humanities at the University of São Paulo.

Since 2012 she has been a member of the Sustainability Laboratory at USP and works under the Bachelor’s Degree in Public Policy Management (EACH-USP). She is also a professor of and advisor to the PROCAM-USP Graduate Program in Environmental Science and Sustainability. Her research focus is on solid waste, specifically waste management, policies, and socio-environmental impacts.

We will meet at @1860 at 10 a.m. (Winnipeg Time) to hear Dr. Sylmara Gonçalves Dias discussing an educational tool designed for engaging students in participatory, individual, and collective activities centered around environmental and climate injustices, using the local environment as a focal point for reflection. This tool called the Climate Detective Educational Toolkit, was created as part of the “Participatory Action Research: Education for Climate Justice in the Ribeira Valley” project, which began in October 2021 and is a collaboration between NOSS EACH USP, Climate-U (College of London – UKRI), and INCLINE USP in Brazil.

The toolkit is specifically designed for primary school students and aims to encourage them to observe their surroundings to identify issues related to Climate Injustice and propose solutions.

Thanks to the University of Victoria Community Based Research Lab for making this opportunity possible!

Administrator

The Arts Incubator - Winnipeg is a participatory arts collective and living lab, based in Winnipeg, Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario. It's a space where innovation and creativity thrive. It's latest iteration was launched in 2021 with funding and support from the Canada Council for the Arts Digital Greenhouse. Today, working with students and faculty from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, we fuse traditional and participatory media arts with artificial intelligence, music, storytelling and community-driven, land-based artist residencies to cultivate new voices and bold ideas. Whether through collaborative projects or immersive experiences, our small but vibrant community supports creators to explore, experiment, and connect. Join us at the intersection of artistry, technology, culture and community—where every moment is a new opportunity to create.
