Nuclear Waste Impact Assessment Open House and Information Session

April 22 @ 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Free

On April 22, 2026, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m., the Dyment Recreation Hall in Melgund Township will host an important community information session and open house focused on the federal impact assessment process for the proposed NWMO Deep Geological Repository (DGR) for Canada’s Used Nuclear Fuel Project.

This event is an opportunity for residents to engage directly with representatives from the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (IAAC) and better understand how the federal review process works. The session will include a short presentation outlining the current stage of the assessment, followed by an open-house format designed for one-on-one conversations and community dialogue.

At the heart of the discussion are two draft documents currently open for public comment: the Integrated Tailored Impact Statement Guidelines and the Public Participation Plan. These documents will influence what studies are required, what issues are examined, and how communities can stay involved moving forward.

Participants will learn how to submit comments, what kinds of input are most useful, and how local knowledge and concerns can be reflected in the assessment process. Whether you have technical questions or simply want to better understand what’s happening, this session is designed to meet people where they are.

The open house format allows for flexibility, so you can drop in at any time between 3:00 and 7:00 p.m. and engage at your own comfort level. Staff will be available throughout the afternoon and evening to answer questions and provide guidance.

This is a valuable opportunity for the community to be informed, heard, and involved. Your participation helps ensure that local perspectives are part of the process.

All are welcome!
