At The Arts Incubator, we believe that storytelling is the heartbeat of literacy, culture, and community life. In Northwestern Ontario and Manitoba, we don’t just record stories—we bring them to life through collective publishing projects. Our community publishing initiative helps us safeguard local histories, nurture new writers, and showcase the powerful voices of our region. Every book we create is a way of keeping traditions alive while building skills that last a lifetime.

Accessibility matters to us. That’s why our publications are created with the community and for the community, and soon they’ll be available far beyond our region. Our books will be carried by leading distributors and library networks, so Northern and Indigenous voices can be heard in bookstores and classrooms across Canada—and internationally.

COMING IN FALL-WINTER 2025

Our regional stories are going global. From Northwestern Ontario to Manitoba, the narratives we publish will soon reach readers across the country and around the world. This expansion means local histories and perspectives will be preserved, celebrated, and shared with audiences who might otherwise never encounter them.

Skills We Build Together

  • Developing Storytelling & Community Publishing Skills
  • Listening with Care – We practice attentive listening, especially when gathering oral histories from Indigenous and Northern communities.
  • Story Crafting – We learn to shape personal narratives into written works that reflect the voices and identities of our region.
  • Editing & Preservation – Respectfully curating stories while maintaining the authenticity of the storyteller’s voice.
  • Empathy & Cultural Awareness – Engaging with diverse perspectives deepens our understanding of Northern heritage.
  • Community Collaboration – Working as a team to publish books strengthens leadership and project management skills.
  • Critical Reflection – Viewing stories as historical and cultural resources that shape how we understand our region.
  • Practical Publishing Skills – From transcription to layout design, participants gain technical experience in modern publishing tools that give them creative independence.
