Melgund Township Celebrates the Inaugural Everyone Outdoors Together on July 18
On Saturday, July 18, residents gathered from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. to participate in the inaugural Everyone Outdoors Together, joining communities across Canada in a shared celebration of nature, recreation and community connection.
Everyone Outdoors Together is built on a simple but meaningful idea: creating a moment when people across the country step outside at the same time to reconnect with nature, their neighbours and one another. As Canada’s newest outdoor initiative, it encourages active living while strengthening the social connections that help build healthier, more resilient communities.
Throughout the evening, participants enjoyed time outdoors, shared conversations with friends and neighbours, and embraced the opportunity to slow down and appreciate the natural environment. The event highlighted the important role that parks, trails, public spaces and community gathering places play in supporting physical activity, mental well-being and a strong sense of belonging.
Everyone Outdoors Together 2026 also arrives at a particularly meaningful moment. As wildfires continue to affect communities across Northwestern Ontario, many have experienced uncertainty, disrupted routines and concern for friends, family and neighbouring communities. In times like these, opportunities to come together become even more important.
Connecting Community and Coming Together
Spending time outdoors, connecting with neighbours and sharing a common experience reminds us that strong communities are built not only through emergency response, but through everyday moments of belonging, resilience and mutual support. Everyone Outdoors Together demonstrates that even a simple evening spent outside can strengthen the social connections that help communities weather difficult times together.
Art Borups Corners, together with local community organizations, was proud to support this national initiative and help bring residents together for an evening focused on recreation, wellness and community spirit. Special thanks go to the Local Services Board of Melgund, the Arts Incubator Winnipeg, Melgund Recreation, Arts and Culture, and especially to the Canadian Parks and Recreation Association for making this wonderful event possible.
As the first year of Everyone Outdoors Together comes to a close, organizers look forward to building on this new tradition and welcoming even more participants in the years ahead. Spending time outdoors together, communities strengthen relationships, encourage active lifestyles and create lasting memories that extend well beyond a single evening.
