The land lab is officially waking up as these bright, resilient blooms finally break through the winter drab.
That unmistakable flash of brilliant yellow cutting through the leftover winter drab is the ultimate proof that the seasons are shifting. Stepping out into the land lab today and finding these daffodils wide awake was the exact spark the team needed to kick off the season. Even though the soil is waking up incredibly slowly this year and forcing a late start for most of our collection, these resilient beauties didn’t hesitate for a single second.
Getting the summer program back up and running always takes a ton of prep work, but walking right into a burst of cheerful color makes every bit of the effort worth it. Daffodils are essentially the trendsetters of our plots, confidently leading the charge while the rest of the vegetation takes its sweet time catching up. It is the absolute best reminder of why we love doing this hands-on work—watching the entire landscape shake off the frost and snap back to life right before our eyes.
There is a collective sigh of relief that goes through the group when these first blooms arrive because it means the cycle is officially restarting and warmer days are guaranteed. While we keep our fingers crossed that this burst of color coaxes the rest of our plants awake, we are more than happy to celebrate our favourite early risers.
