Tanya McArthur Brings Fresh Watercolour Series to Regional Gallery
Dryden Artist Tanya McArthur Showcases New Watercolour Collection at 2026 Spring Arts Exhibition in Melgund Township
We are pleased to feature Dryden-based artist Tanya McArthur in the 2026 Spring Arts Exhibition in Melgund Township, Northwestern Ontario, where her newest watercolour collection takes centre stage. Known locally for her presence in regional music and arts communities, McArthur now brings a refined and expressive series of floral and landscape paintings to the gallery.
This year’s exhibition highlights McArthur’s recent expansion into watercolour painting, a shift that has quickly become a defining feature of her current practice. Her new works focus on florals in bloom and the subtle character of Northern Ontario landscapes, rendered with a lightness and depth that showcase both control and experimentation within the medium. Soft gradients, layered washes, and carefully placed detail give each piece a sense of movement and atmosphere.
McArthur’s watercolour series reflects a natural evolution in a practice that has long been grounded in observation and craftsmanship. While she has spent decades working in acrylics—depicting realistic animals, landscapes, and everyday objects on surfaces ranging from canvas and wood to metal—this latest body of work embraces a more fluid and expressive approach. The result is a collection that emphasizes tone, texture, and the quiet complexity of natural forms.
Drawing on a lifelong connection to family, craft traditions, and the landscapes of Northwestern Ontario, McArthur’s work continues to be rooted in place and experience. Her watercolours offer an intimate look at familiar natural subjects, reinterpreted through a fresh artistic lens that prioritizes light, colour, and atmosphere.
