The Arts Incubator

Winnipeg, Manitoba

The project is grounded in a dynamic process of collaborative engagement and capacity building, utilizing arts-based research methodologies to ensure the work is both relevant and empowering. A key focus is Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR), which positions young people as leaders in investigating their own economic realities and co-designing their futures. Through a series of co-design workshops, digital storytelling projects, and community forums, ECO-STAR North facilitates intergenerational knowledge transfer, connecting youth with Elders and established creators. This hands-on, community-led approach ensures the resulting toolkit is not an academic exercise, but a living, practical resource built by and for Northern innovators, strengthening a resilient and interconnected creative ecosystem.

Celebrating Canada Day 2025

Canada Day concerts and celebration in Melgund Township were a resounding success!

Communities celebrate Canada Day 2025 in Northwestern Ontario

The Dyment Recreation Hall complex in Melgund Township was buzzing for a fantastic Canada Day celebration, pulling in close to 100 folks from all around Northwestern Ontario. The air was alive with the sound of the band Country Twist playing popular tunes, and plenty of people were out on the dance floor, showing off their moves and just soaking up the fun.

The food was a huge hit, too! The busy cookshack was cranking out delicious hotdogs, French fries, smokies, and cheeseburgers all day long. And what a lifesaver the new pavilion was – it just got finished this week and offered some much-needed shade from the sun. Plus, there were new event tents set up, so everyone had a cool spot to hang out and enjoy this great community get-together.

The day's events featured popular local area band Country Twist with Tanya McArthur, Gerry McArthur and Maurice Betournay.

It was a great event filled with community spirit, music and vibrant celebrations, and the joyous coming together that defines our region. We are incredibly proud to have supported this year’s events and are deeply grateful for the opportunity to contribute to such a memorable occasion for everyone.

This year's first Silent Auction raised $523 to support recreation programs in the township.
