Practical Non-profit support for Northwestern Ontario Communities

Strategic planning ensures our local organizations in Northwestern Ontario have the stability to serve our neighbors.

We provide the strategic tools necessary for local organizations to stay resilient and connected.

Why Community Organizations Need a Solid Plan

In our region, community is more than a word. It is how we survive the winters and celebrate the summers. From the busy streets of Thunder Bay to the quiet shores of Lake of the Woods in Kenora, our local organizations are the backbone of our daily lives. However, many of these groups find themselves caught in a cycle of reacting to problems rather than planning for the future. We provide professional non-profit support to help you move from survival to stability. We believe that when a community group has a clear roadmap, everyone in the region benefits.

We recognize the specific difficulties of working in Northwestern Ontario. The distances between places like Sioux Lookout and Dryden are vast, and the needs of our neighbors can be just as diverse. This is why a one-size-fits-all approach does not work here. We offer a partnership where we look at your specific goals and the people you serve to create a plan that actually makes sense for your daily operations.

Strengthening Our Region with Non-profit support

Our primary way of working with you is through our Strategic Planning service. This is not a thick document that sits on a shelf gathering dust. It is a living guide that helps your team make decisions every day. We work with board members, staff, and volunteers to identify exactly what your organization wants to achieve over the next three to five years. By setting these targets, you can stop worrying about the unknown and start focusing on the work that matters to the people in Fort Frances or Red Lake.

During our Strategic Planning sessions, we look at several core areas:

Identifying Local Priorities

What does your community actually need? We help you look at the data and the feedback from your clients to see where your efforts should go. In smaller towns like Marathon or Nipigon, resources are often limited. We help you figure out how to use what you have to the greatest effect. This ensures that your programs are meeting the real needs of the people walking through your doors.

Building Operational Resiliency

Resiliency is about making sure your organization can handle a sudden change in funding or a shift in leadership. We review your current structures and help you find ways to diversify your income. This includes looking at social enterprise models where your services can generate revenue to support your mission. We want to see your organization stay open for decades, not just months.

A Collaborative Approach to Planning

We do not come into your office and tell you what to do. You are the expert on your own community. Our role is to facilitate the conversation and provide the structure needed to turn your ideas into a reality. We bring the tools, but you bring the vision. This collaborative spirit is what makes our work in Northwestern Ontario so effective. We have seen how much stronger an organization becomes when the entire team is involved in the planning process. It creates a sense of shared ownership and pride in the results.

Our Strategic Planning service also includes a review of your internal communications. We look at how information flows from your board to your front-line staff. When everyone is on the same page, there is less friction and more productivity. This internal health is the foundation of any successful public service.

How to Get Started with Us

If you are feeling overwhelmed by the daily demands of running a non-profit, it might be time to take a step back and look at the big picture. We are here to help you do that. Whether you are based in Kenora, Thunder Bay, or any point in between, our team is ready to meet with you and discuss how we can support your mission. We offer an initial meeting to understand your needs and see if our Strategic Planning service is the right fit for your group.

We are a social enterprise that reinvests back into our region. When you work with us, you are also supporting the broader health of the non-profit sector in the North. We believe in the power of local groups to change lives, and we are honored to be a part of that process. Let us work together to build a more stable and connected future for every person in our community. Contact us today to schedule your first session.

The Arts Incubator - Winnipeg is a participatory arts collective and living lab, based in Winnipeg, Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario. It's a space where innovation and creativity thrive. It's latest iteration was launched in 2021 with funding and support from the Canada Council for the Arts Digital Greenhouse. Today, working with students and faculty from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, we fuse traditional and participatory media arts with artificial intelligence, music, storytelling and community-driven, land-based artist residencies to cultivate new voices and bold ideas. Whether through collaborative projects or immersive experiences, our small but vibrant community supports creators to explore, experiment, and connect. Join us at the intersection of artistry, technology, culture and community—where every moment is a new opportunity to create.
