Sustainable Agriculture

Sustainable Agriculture & Our Arts-Driven Living Lab for Food Security

Rooted in principles of sustainable agriculture, our arts-driven living lab is a creative, community-based hub for tackling food insecurity through regenerative small-scale farming, cultural knowledge, and climate resilience. Operating across key regions—including Winnipeg, Manitoba, Minnesota, and Northwestern Ontario—our living lab integrates art, ecology, and innovation to strengthen local food systems and inspire action.

Combining traditional practices, permaculture, and hands-on education with artistic collaboration, we work to empower communities to co-create sustainable, community-led food solutions that respond to the impacts of climate change, land degradation, and supply chain disruption. Through youth-led initiatives, participatory design, and cross-border partnerships, our living lab nurtures both soil health and social well-being, cultivating a vibrant network of changemakers committed to food sovereignty, resilient agriculture, and creative place-making. From urban gardens in Winnipeg, Manitoba to forest-edge farms in Northwestern Ontario and collaborative workshops with Minneapolis and Duluth Minnesota, we are building a regenerative future—rooted in culture, driven by creativity, and grounded in sustainability.

Year two of our arts incubator land lab's food security program is in full swing! We've grown dozens of beautiful apple pippins from seed since February, excited to expand our sustainable agriculture project. But moving them outdoors brought an unexpected challenge: environmental shock! Seeing those dried, stressed leaves was a learning moment. We're now focused on helping them recover through careful "hardening off" – gradually reintroducing them to the outdoor environment. This means starting in a sheltered spot, slowly increasing their exposure to sun and wind, and ensuring consistent, proper watering.

Jukebox In Exile is the new country music album from Flin Flon singer-songwriter C.C. Trubiak, blending classic country, honky-tonk, Americana and traditional storytelling into a collection of songs inspired by resilience, community and life in Northern Manitoba. Written during and after the 2025 Flin Flon wildfire evacuation, the album draws influence from country music legends including Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, Waylon Jennings and George Jones. Featuring the singles "Old Country Songs," "Being Rich" and the charting track "Outlaws Meditation," Jukebox In Exile showcases Trubiak's signature songwriting while celebrating small-town life, northern Canadian culture, queer country music and the enduring spirit of Flin Flon.
