We love old signs from the past.
Old Signs of Melgund Township
This beautiful sign from Lund’s Cozy Cabins is just one example of the treasures we’ll be exploring in our upcoming exhibition season.
Next year, we’re excited to dive into the history of signage and marketing from Northwestern Ontario, uncovering the stories behind the graphics, lettering, and designs that once drew people into businesses, cabins, and attractions across the region. It’s a look back at a time when every sign had a personality and every corner held a story.
We’re thrilled to be collaborating with the incredible teams at Melgund Recreation, Arts and Culture and the Dyment Museum in Melgund Township. Their plans for their arts and heritage space are ambitious and inspiring, and we’re happy to support them with curation and research for this program. Together, we’re uncovering the threads of local history and helping bring them to life in ways that are accessible, fun, and meaningful for the community.
Visitors can look forward not only to the exhibition of historic signs but also to interactive elements that bring the stories behind them to life—think old photographs, oral histories, and perhaps even the chance to try your hand at vintage-style sign painting. We hope this exhibition sparks memories for long-time residents and curiosity for newcomers, celebrating the visual culture that has shaped Northwestern Ontario’s identity over the years.
Stay tuned as we reveal more exhibitions for the upcoming year, all designed to highlight local creativity, history, and the people behind it. It’s going to be an exciting season for arts and heritage lovers alike.
