Championing Dignity: Our Support for Global Dignity Canada
For more than a decade, our projects and programs have been proud to support Global Dignity Canada, an organization dedicated to fostering a world where every individual is treated with respect and has the opportunity to live a life of inherent worth. Global Dignity, established in 2005 by HRH Crown Prince Haakon of Norway, Operation HOPE Founder John Hope Bryant, and Professor Pekka Himanen, is a non-profit, non-political initiative empowering youth and communities globally. Their mission aligns deeply with our values of community well-being, youth empowerment, and volunteerism, recognizing that promoting dignity is fundamental to building a more compassionate and inclusive society across Canada.
Global Dignity Principles
Global Dignity’s powerful message is built upon five core principles:
- Every human being has a right to lead a dignified life.
- A dignified life means an opportunity to fulfill one’s potential, which is based on having a human level of health care, education, income, and security.
- Dignity means having the freedom to make decisions on one’s life and to be met with respect for this right.
- Dignity should be the basic guiding principle for all actions.
- Ultimately, our own dignity is interdependent with the dignity of others.
These principles guide our collaborative efforts as we work to amplify their impact within Canadian communities. We believe that by embracing these tenets, we can collectively inspire respect, self-esteem, and tolerance of diversity in young people and adults alike.
National Events: Global Dignity Day and National Kindness Week
Our commitment to Global Dignity Canada is particularly highlighted during two significant annual events. Every October, we enthusiastically participate in Global Dignity Day, held on the third Wednesday of the month. This impactful day brings together role models, educators, and thousands of volunteers to engage with youth across Canada, from Nunavut to British Columbia, instilling a positive, inclusive, and interconnected sense of value. Similarly, we actively support National Kindness Week in February, which, since the passing of the Kindness Act in 2021, celebrates transformative moments of compassion and encourages acts of kindness, volunteering, and charitable giving across the nation. These events serve as powerful reminders of the positive ripple effect we can create through simple, yet profound, actions.
Through our partnership with Global Dignity Canada, we aim to contribute to a brighter future for Canadian youth, fostering community support, and promoting volunteerism as a cornerstone of our society. As a dedicated non-profit organization, we recognize the vital importance of these initiatives in building resilient communities and empowering the next generation of Canadian leaders. We encourage everyone to learn more about Global Dignity Canada and discover how you can contribute to this inspiring movement.
