Sponsors Stepping Up to Support a Beloved Community Tradition

The Local Services Board of Melgund is preparing to host its annual Canada Day Celebration on July 1st, 2025 — a cherished event that brings together residents and visitors for a day of entertainment, family-friendly activities, and community pride.

This volunteer-driven event, which serves the communities of Dyment, Borups Corners, and the surrounding areas, relies on the generous support of local businesses and individuals to succeed. Each year, the celebration fosters a strong sense of connection and belonging, offering a memorable experience for all ages.

Organizers are currently seeking donations and corporate sponsorships to help offset event costs and ensure a safe, engaging, and high-quality celebration. In particular, contributions for door prizes and spot dance giveaways are welcomed and appreciated. Items of any size or value make a meaningful impact and help build the festive spirit of the day.

Donations can be picked up locally on June 26th, and all supporters will be recognized during the event.

A special thank you goes out to Downtown Dollar and Tim Hortons in Dryden, as well as the Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO) in Ignace, for stepping up early with generous contributions toward this year’s celebration. Their support is helping set the stage for a truly memorable day for the community.

“The success of our Canada Day Celebration depends on the generosity of our local community,” organizers said. “Each contribution brings us closer to creating a vibrant event that reflects our shared pride and the strength of our community.”

Those interested in supporting the 2025 Melgund Canada Day Celebration can contact the organizing committee directly at melgundlsb@gmail.com to arrange a donation or ask questions.

At artsincubator.ca, we’re proud to help amplify community initiatives like this one — where creativity, connection, and collaboration come together to build something special.

A powerful new short story, "The Community's New Stories" by Jamie Bell and published by the Art Borups Corners Storytelling Club, offers a compelling look at resilience and the enduring spirit of community in the face of adversity. The narrative centres on a small, close-knit community in Northwestern Ontario or Manitoba, grappling with the aftermath of a devastating flood that submerges their beloved community hall library. It tells the moving tale of three teenagers who step up to rebuild, not just physical spaces, but the very fabric of their collective memory.
