Learning to assign ISBN Numbers
This weekend we’ll be working alongside partners in Nunavut and Manitoba to dive into the world of ISBNs!
Together, we’ll explore how the Library and Archives Canada system works for registering International Standard Book Numbers—the identifiers that make sure books can be tracked, recognized, and circulated in the global publishing network. The workshop will be led this week by Jamie Bell.
Learning this process is an important step in preparing for our upcoming storytelling and oral history initiatives. It ensures that community-created works are formally registered and accessible, building pathways for our voices to reach far beyond local borders.
The session also ties into our broader creative enterprise program, which is focused on equipping artists with practical publishing skills. Building this capacity, artists can document their work, take ownership of their stories, and develop new opportunities in the arts economy.
