We’re proud to support the Moose Hide Campaign Day.

This annual campaign, which takes place on May 16, 2024, serves as a powerful reminder of the urgent need to address the pervasive issue of violence against women and children. Moose Hide Campaign Day is part of the ongoing fight against gender-based violence.

It provides an opportunity for individuals, organizations, and communities to come together to raise awareness, foster dialogue, and take concrete steps towards ending violence. At its core, the day is about honoring the sacred connection with the land symbolized by moose hide and committing to creating safer, more inclusive spaces.

How Can Communities Get Involved?

For many communities, Moose Hide Campaign Day holds particular significance. It’s an opportunity to reclaim traditional practices and ceremonies while actively addressing the pressing issue of violence. Communities organize their own events, incorporating cultural elements such as talking circles, drumming, and storytelling. By centering Indigenous voices and perspectives, these events serve as powerful expressions of resilience and healing.

Communities are encouraged to participate in the distribution of moose hide pins, which have become emblematic of the campaign’s message. These pins serve as tangible reminders of the commitment to ending violence and can be worn with pride by community members.

Whether it’s organizing a walk to raise awareness or hosting a campaign kiosk, organizations and workplaces in Manitoba can demonstrate their dedication to ending violence and promoting reconciliation.

Employers can encourage staff to participate in Moose Hide Campaign Day by providing educational resources, organizing awareness-raising activities, and facilitating discussions about gender-based violence. Additionally, people can order moose hide pins for their employees, offering a visible symbol of solidarity and commitment to creating safer environments.

Taking Action Together

This year, for Moose Hide Campaign Day, now is the time for individuals, communities, and workplaces in Manitoba and beyond to stand together against gender-based violence. By participating in this annual event, we reaffirm our collective commitment to creating a future free from violence, where all individuals can thrive in safety and dignity.

Administrator

The Arts Incubator - Winnipeg is a participatory arts collective and living lab, based in Winnipeg, Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario. It's a space where innovation and creativity thrive. It's latest iteration was launched in 2021 with funding and support from the Canada Council for the Arts Digital Greenhouse. Today, working with students and faculty from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, we fuse traditional and participatory media arts with artificial intelligence, music, storytelling and community-driven, land-based artist residencies to cultivate new voices and bold ideas. Whether through collaborative projects or immersive experiences, our small but vibrant community supports creators to explore, experiment, and connect. Join us at the intersection of artistry, technology, culture and community—where every moment is a new opportunity to create.
