Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation Celebrates 42nd Annual Traditional Pow Wow

Grand Entries, memorial specials and community celebrations continue through Sunday, September 6

Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation is hosting its 42nd Annual Traditional Pow Wow from September 4 to 6, 2026, bringing together dancers, drummers, families, community members and visitors for a weekend of culture, celebration and remembrance.

We’re happy to be watching the wonderful celebrations taking place this weekend and want to thank everyone at Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation for putting on such a great event. It has been wonderful to see so many from across the region come together through dancing, drumming, remembrance, food and fellowship.

The weekend began Friday evening with warmups and the 2nd Annual Honouring Chief Esther Pitchenese “Saabe Kwe” Memorial Special. The special was open to all ages and categories, as well as spectators, with no regalia required.

Today’s events feature Grand Entry at 1:00 PM and 7:00 PM, along with several special memorial competitions. The Saturday program includes the 3rd Annual “Zhaawanong Binesiik” Mary Rose Pitchenese Jingle Dress Memorial Special, the 3rd Annual “Memengweshiik” Anita Pitchenese Youth Memorial Special, and the 4th Annual “Aazhoogoneyaash” Paul Watts Men’s Traditional Memorial Special.

The pow wow continues throughout the weekend, bringing the community together through dancing, drumming, remembrance and celebration. On Sunday, the weekend event will conclude with Grand Entry at 1:00 PM, followed by the “Giving Back” Ribbon Skirt Special by Skirts by Shannon and the 4th Annual “Aazhoogoneyaash” Paul Watts Men’s Traditional Memorial Special.

Daily breakfast and bingo are available throughout the weekend, with a daily feast at 5:00 PM.
