Winnipeg-based Inuk artist Tony Eetak blends photography and music in new multimedia exhibition.
Digital innovation meets Northern landscape this spring as Melgund Recreation, Arts and Culture unveils its inaugural arts programming. Launching April 17, the 2026 Melgund Township Arts Exhibition marks a bold evolution for the regional creative scene, transforming the community’s newest heritage space into a hub for visual storytelling, cinematic exploration, and virtual reality.
Among this year’s featured artists is Tony Eetak, a Winnipeg-based Inuk artist whose work collapses the boundaries between sight and sound. As an emerging photographer and musician, Eetak captures the raw essence of the North through a high-tech lens, blending traditional Inuit perspectives with contemporary digital experimentation. His presence in the exhibition signals a shift toward a more interconnected, multi-sensory future for Melgund’s cultural landscape.
He’s also a founding member of The Arts Incubator Winnipeg and Art Borups Corners collectives. Eetak’s forward-thinking approach has earned significant institutional support, including backing from organizations including the Canada Council for the Arts, Minneapolis College of Art and Design, Manitoba Agriculture and the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership, the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada, Manitoba Arts Council, and the Ontario Arts Council, as well as the prestigious OpenAI Researcher Access Program.
Running through May 17, Tony’s work will invite visitors to experience how the next generation of artists is redefining “local” art in a global, digital age.
