A Volunteer-Driven Storytelling Program Highlighting Spring Short Fiction, Digital Literacy, and Interdisciplinary Arts Across Northern Communities
Spring brings growth, renewal, and fresh beginnings—and this year’s Spring Short Stories Project captures that energy with a vibrant new collection of seasonal short fiction.
Designed for readers, writers, and creative enthusiasts across Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario, this volunteer-led program combines community storytelling, digital literacy, and creative experimentation in an accessible online library.
This project builds on interdisciplinary arts and storytelling capacity-building programs launched in summer and fall 2025, supported by the Ontario Arts Council Multi and Inter-Arts Projects Program, the Government of Ontario, the Local Services Board of Melgund, and The Arts Incubator Winnipeg. Their popularity inspired the team to continue this creative experiment as an ongoing seasonal storytelling initiative.
The latest collection features a variety of short stories across multiple genres—from adventure and mystery to romance, coming-of-age, and literary fiction. Inspired by northern landscapes, local communities, and the changing seasons, each story offers immersive narratives celebrating imagination and place. Whether you seek uplifting tales, suspenseful mysteries, or reflective literary fiction, the Spring Short Stories Library has stories to spark creativity.
This ongoing recreational storytelling and digital literacy initiative is supported by our creative hubs in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Melgund Township in Northwestern Ontario. It explores storytelling, technology, capacity building, content management, data, and digital publishing, offering community members, writers, and artists a platform to share work and experiment with new ideas.
