Innovation, AI, and Youth Engagement
This week’s discussion brought together important ideas at the intersection of innovation, language accessibility, and digital marketing for nonprofits.
Dr. Olaf Kuhlke shared insights from his innovation class hosted on Canvas, including a detailed look at the syllabus, modules, and assignments. He outlined plans to translate the course and integrate it with GPT-powered tools, expanding access to students and communities. A key consideration was whether translations should use Roman orthography, which is increasingly emphasized online, rather than syllabics.
Jamie Bell highlighted the critical role of marketing and communication skills, especially for young people. He pointed to the significant untapped potential for leveraging annual advertising credits available to nonprofits. Bell stressed that building capacity among youth to use tools such as ChatGPT and Google Ads could unlock powerful opportunities for outreach and impact.
Together, the conversation emphasized two key themes: ensuring culturally responsive education by adapting content, and equipping the next generation with digital skills to amplify nonprofit work.
Action items moving forward:
- Explore using Bing Translator instead of Google Translate for more accurate language translation.
- Develop strategies to engage youth in learning and applying digital marketing tools, with an emphasis on maximizing nonprofit access to free tools.
