Nuclear Waste Community Workshop: NWMO Alternative Means Studies

October 28 @ 4:30 pm - 8:00 pm
The controversial proposed nuclear waste deep geological repository is the focus of an October 28 workshop at Dyment Community Hall. The session invites community input on facility layout, infrastructure, water management, waste areas and potential future land use.

As part of NWMO’s regulatory engagement program, this workshop will focus on the Alternative Means Studies required under the Impact Assessment Act. These studies assess different ways of carrying out the Project and identify the preferred options, primarily with a focus on facility layout.

The purpose of the engagement is to increase community understanding of the Alternative Means Assessment process, identify which studies are of greatest interest to the LSB of Melgund and surrounding community members, and gather community input on the four studies listed below:

Utility Corridor Options: Reviewing possible routes for transportation and utility connections to the Project Site.

Water Intake & Discharge: Exploring options for water sourcing, discharge locations, and overall water-management approaches.

Accommodation Camp Location: Considering potential locations for the workforce accommodation camp within the site footprint.

Waste Management Areas: Assessing options for the Excavated Rock Management Area and Organics Management Area.

In addition to the Alternative Means Assessment studies, this workshop session will also solicit feedback on site decommissioning and end land use. Participants will be provided with an introductory presentation on the studies and the opportunity to participate in interactive feedback activities.

You can RSVP by contacting Chantelle Gascon at cgascon@nwmo.ca by October 26, 2026, and please indicate any dietary considerations.
