About the NWMO

The NWMO is a not-for-profit organization responsible for the safe, long-term management of used nuclear fuel in a manner that protects both people and the environment.

We have been guided for more than 20 years by a dedicated team of world-class scientists, engineers and Indigenous Knowledge Holders that are developing innovative and collaborative solutions for nuclear waste management.

In November 2024, the NWMO selected Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation and the Township of Ignace as the host communities for the future site for Canada’s deep geological repository for used nuclear fuel.
