Wild Clay Workshop: Block, Wedge & Package Our First Harvest

June 30 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Free
After another night of soaking, this batch was mixed again to fully slake the remaining clay. An extra round of straining removed more roots and coarse material, leaving a much smoother clay slurry that will continue settling before the next stage of processing.

Learn the final steps of wild clay processing at this free June 30 workshop. Help package our first harvest and enjoy hotdogs and pop with the group.

Join us from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. on June 30 for a fun, hands-on afternoon as we complete the final stage of our wild clay harvesting project.

During this workshop, you’ll learn how to block and wedge clay. Blocking is the process of dividing a large batch of clay into manageable pieces for storage and future use. Wedging is a traditional kneading technique that removes air pockets, evens out moisture throughout the clay and improves its workability. These are the final preparation steps before the clay is ready for pottery and other ceramic projects.

Whether you’ve been part of the project from the beginning or are just curious about working with wild clay, everyone is welcome. We’ll be packaging our first harvest together, sharing what we’ve learned, and getting the clay ready for future creations. Everyone will have a few blocks to take home!

Hotdogs and pop will be available, so come out, get your hands a little dirty and help celebrate another milestone in our wild clay experiment.
