The Magic of Gallery Rails
If you’ve been following the updates for our new gallery and exhibition space at the Dyment Recreation Hall, you might have heard us buzzing about “gallery rails.” We’ve had a few curious neighbours ask exactly what these are and why we’re so excited to get them on the walls. Put simply, they are the secret weapon of professional art spaces—and they’re officially on our shopping list!
Instead of hammering a fresh nail into the drywall every time a new painting arrives (which eventually turns a wall into Swiss cheese), a gallery rail is a sleek, horizontal track mounted high up near the ceiling. From this track, thin, discrete cables or rods hang down to hold the artwork. It’s a “hook and slide” system that allows us to move art left, right, up, or down in seconds without a single power tool in sight.
Oordering these rails for our new exhibition space, we’re investing in the future of local and area art. This system gives us the flexibility to host everything from large quilts and tapestries to tiny, delicate sketches back-to-back. It keeps our walls pristine and professional, making the Dyment Recreation Hall a top-tier venue for local Northwestern Ontario creators to showcase their work.
We can’t wait to show you how much of a difference a little bit of “hanging around” can make for our community’s vibrant art scene!
