Seniors for Climate Manitoba: Picnic, People and Power

Seniors for Climate Manitoba is inviting community members to gather for an evening of conversation, connection, and climate action at Vimy Ridge Park in Winnipeg. The event, titled “Break Through the Climate Silence – Picnic, People and Power!”, will take place on Wednesday, June 3, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. A rain date has been scheduled for June 4.

The gathering is designed to bring people together to discuss one of the most pressing issues facing communities today: climate change. Organizers will encourage participants to explore how climate change affects their lives and learn practical ways to advocate for stronger environmental action at the local level.

Attendees will be able to enjoy a community picnic atmosphere with BBQ hotdogs and vegetarian options provided. Participants are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chair, their own eating utensils, and picnic treats or snacks to share with others.

The event will feature the Break Through the Climate Silence Call to Action, providing information on how residents can engage with municipal leaders and candidates ahead of Winnipeg’s upcoming civic election. Organizers hope the event will empower community members to make their voices heard on climate-related issues.

Entertainment and community spirit will also be part of the evening, with the Winnipeg Raging Grannies for Social Justice taking part in the program.

The event is open to everyone who is concerned about climate change, regardless of age or background. Seniors for Climate Manitoba says the gathering is intended to create a welcoming space where residents can learn, share ideas, and build momentum for climate action within their communities.

Those planning to attend are asked to RSVP by emailing patw@seniorsforclimate.org.
